Facing Sunday

Facing Sunday is an indie acoustic trio that writes and performs original material, based in Denver, Colorado. We are:
· Caleb Coats (vocals and acoustic guitar)
· Anthony Benedetti (percussion)
· Rob Sanders (upright bass)

Most artists will concede that what may sound original is in fact a mash-up of influences that over time becomes their own thing. Though we constantly seek new sounds, we believe in paying respects to the masters. We strive to take the audience where the music is going without letting them forget where the music has been.

The result is a sound that immediately connects with audiences yet is hard to nail down. If we could put it in an equation, it might look like this:

Facing Sunday = Y + Rock(.30) + Americana(.30) + Blues(.20) + Jazz(.20)

…where the constant (Y) is funk.

Without apology, we write our music to be accessible and genuine. Like the great jazz pianist Bill Evans, we believe the feelings in the arts should be more selective. To connect, music must reflect real life. The emotions projected should be broad, visceral, and unpredictable.

Forget Mozart. Give us Berlioz: Suffer unrequited love. Write a bombastic symphony to show her how that makes you feel. Win her over and enter into a short and unhappy relationship.

Love and hate and everything in between. That’s music.
